Job Title:

Horticultural Specialist

Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving Council's parks, gardens, and landscaped areas with a focus on native gardens.

  • Maintenance of gardens including annuals, native & non-native plants, high-profile areas, traffic facilities and other landscaped areas in accordance with service requirements, service agreements, rosters and programs.
  • Providing recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment and improvement; implementing as required.
  • Providing on-the-job skills development and training to staff.
  • Undertaking risk and hazard assessments of areas under the crew's control and taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Identifying, reporting and rectifying landscape deficiencies, especially in gardens and landscape maintenance.
  • Providing assistance and advice to management, staff, customers and the community when necessary.
  • Ensuring all works under the position holder's control are completed within timeframes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Horticulture or a similar field. A current Class C Drivers Licence. Chemical Users Accreditation Certificate or equivalent. Experience in garden maintenance. Skills and experience necessary to fulfill the role, responsibilities, duties and competency requirements of the position.
