About the Opportunity

The University of Tasmania is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Data Analyst to join the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS). As a key member of the Data Management section, you will play a critical role in ensuring the adoption of best data management practices and providing expert advice to researchers across IMAS and partner organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain end-to-end data workflows for research data hardware and software infrastructure, ensuring compliance with FAIR principles and the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research.
  • Provide expert advice to researchers on data management, analytics, code optimisation, visualisation, and publishing, ensuring the adoption of best practice and adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with IT and data management staff from the University and partner organisations to ensure operational availability of complex IT hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Support external users and stakeholders in accessing data published at IMAS, providing expertise in managing and manipulating research datasets and online SQL databases.
  • Represent IMAS at relevant national and international meetings and travel to national data centres as necessary.

Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and/or education training.
  • An advanced understanding of best practice in data management, including the FAIR data principles and management of sensitive data.
  • Extensive experience in supporting and administering IT infrastructure and applications, preferably in a marine research facility.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with large datasets and associated storage environments, including SQL databases.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of web applications, their design, development, and deployment.
