Our 2026 Mental Health Graduate Program

This comprehensive program is designed for recently or soon-to-be graduated Occupational Therapists or Social Workers looking to embark on a rewarding career in mental health.

The program offers multiple discipline-specific positions available for:

Social Worker (Grade 1)

Occupational Therapist (Grade 1)

  • Each graduate will complete two six-month rotations across the MHDAS service.
  • Rotational opportunities include:
  • Acute Inpatient Wards: Providing recovery-oriented care for individuals aged 16 and over experiencing major mental illness/distress.
  • McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Unit: Offering specialized mental health care for independent adults aged 50 and over.
  • CRF/ PARC: A step-up and step-down service providing residential, day program, or outreach support.
  • Hospital in the Home: An innovative program offering adult and youth acute mental health bed-equivalent care in a home environment.
  • Youth Mental Health Team (South): Specializing in early intervention and treatment services for young people with drug and alcohol and/or high-prevalence disorders.
  • Therapy Services (OT): Providing specialist assessment, consultation, and evidence-based psychotherapies.
  • GGQ Mental Health & Wellbeing Local: A new and innovative service catering to individuals aged 26 years and over experiencing mental health or wellbeing concerns.
  • ICMHWBS (OT only): A specialist family-focused service providing assessment and treatment for infants, children, and adolescents with complex mental health problems.
  • Continuuing Care Services (Community MH) - Corio, Bellarine, Geelong West: Offering comprehensive crisis assessment, management, and treatment for individuals aged 16-65 experiencing serious mental health needs.
About the Role

As a Grade 1 Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for delivering beginning-level practice in evidence-based discipline-specific assessment, treatment, and support to consumers presenting with mental health and drug and alcohol problems.

  • Key responsibilities may include:
  • Developing consumer-centered care plans.
  • Providing discipline-specific assessment and intervention plans.
  • Participating in clinical reviews.
  • Liaising with internal and external services to facilitate care provision.
  • Keeping accurate clinical documentation.
  • Providing connections and assistance for consumers and their families to access services that enhance their wellbeing and health.

Graduates will work alongside a more senior Occupational Therapist/Social Worker, entering a well-established multidisciplinary graduate program with opportunities to work and learn alongside fellow graduates from various disciplines.

Graduate clinicians will be supported by a large education and training team and linked into a comprehensive individual and group supervision program. Participation in study days within an interdisciplinary program overseen by the MHDAS Education team is also included.
