About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dementia Consultant to join our team at Dementia Support Australia. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in delivering Australian Government funded dementia behaviour support services.

The successful candidate will have expertise in supporting people living with dementia, with a strong background in assessment and biopsychosocial approaches. You will be responsible for equipping carers and clinicians with the skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to behaviour changes, through modelling, coaching, and development of resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support families, caregivers, and clinical staff to understand the impact of dementia on individuals.
  • Develop and implement behaviour support plans, using evidence-based best practice.
  • Conduct assessments to understand the holistic experience of individuals and their care networks.
  • Work in partnership with the broader Dementia Support Australia team to build capability across the home and aged care sectors.
  • Contribute to research, projects, and programs, and work innovatively to meet the changing needs of the sector.

Requirements

  • Expertise in supporting people living with dementia.
  • Relevant qualifications in Allied Health, Nursing, Aged Care, or Mental Health.
  • Experience in Australian residential aged care and/or community aged care.
  • High level of negotiation, communication, and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A current Australian drivers licence and willingness to travel.
