Job Opportunity: Assistant Director Economics & Insights
We are seeking an EL1 level professional to lead small teams in delivering economic research and analysis to support evidence-based decision making on complex economic and pricing policy.
- Location: Richmond or Geelong with hybrid work-from-home option
- Initial 12-month contract with a 12-month extension, rates negotiable
- Australian Citizenship required for this federal government role
Job Responsibilities:
You will lead the delivery of economic research and analysis to inform policy decisions. Key responsibilities include:
- Addressing challenges in human services markets
- Engaging in theoretical and practical considerations regarding NDIS supports markets
- Applying statistical and economic modelling methods to understand market functioning and propose improvements
- Designing pilot studies to address information asymmetries and market failures
- Collaborating across teams and departments to build a shared understanding
- Making significant impacts on Scheme resource allocation, projected to grow from $46 billion to $58 billion
Requirements:
To succeed, you will need:
- Significant experience in economics, financial analysis, and insights
- Team or project leadership experience in economic insights
- Proficiency in major statistical software packages (R, Python, Stata, SAS)
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
- Structured thinking and analytical frameworks
- Quantitative mindset and technical skills in data handling and analysis
- Strong stakeholder relationship building and maintenance
- A postgraduate degree in economics and econometrics, or similar
- Experience working on care economy challenges
