The opportunity :

Our highly valued client is a federal government agency. They are seeking an APS6 level Economist to join their Economics and Pricing branch, and deliver economic research and analysis to support evidence-based decision making on complex economic and pricing policy.

  • Richmond or Geelong location plus hybrid work-from-home
  • 12 month initial contract + 12 month extension, rates fully negotiable
  • Role only open to Australian Citizens – Federal government client

The role :

As an APS6 Economist, you will :

Work with likeminded individuals on a quest to address the unique challenges of the care economy and human services marketsEngage in theoretical and practical policy considerations regarding the current and future states of the NDIS supports marketsApply statistical and economic modelling and research methods, using large datasets, to understand the functioning of NDIS markets and propose ways of improving itAddress information asymmetries and market failures by carefully designing pilot studies that fill information gaps and test new solutionsWork effectively across teams and departments, and in collaboration with experts and academics, to understand priorities and build a shared understandingMake major impacts on the allocation of the Scheme resources that are projected to grow from $46bn in FY24-25 to $58bn in FY27-28

Skills and experience :

To succeed in this role you will need :

Demonstrated experience in economics, financial analysis, and insightsProficiency with a major statistical software package (R, Python, Stata, SAS)Superior analytical and problem-solving skills applied to understanding complex economic issues and working toward practical solutionsStructured thinking about quantitative and qualitative problems, and development of analytical frameworksQuantitative mindset with technical skills to handling and analyse dataCompetence in building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, both internal and externalA postgraduate degree in economics and econometrics, or similarExperience working on the economic challenges of the care economy
