Job Title: Senior Political Reporter

We are seeking an experienced Senior Political Reporter to join our team at News Corp Australia. As a key member of our newsroom, you will be responsible for covering political news and events in Canberra.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pitch and generate original news stories and ideas
  • Break political news stories
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date calendar
  • File engaging copy to strict deadlines
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with key political players
  • Liaise with CoS (Politics) on daily coverage, planning, and key events
  • Respond to breaking news events outside of rostered hours when required
Requirements:
  • At least two years of journalism/newsroom experience, preferably in political reporting
  • Ability to cut through spin and get to the heart of issues in an engaging way for readers
  • Previous experience covering breaking news
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Capable of multitasking and working under strict deadlines
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Able to simplify complex topics for a broad audience
  • Flexibility around working day and hours
