What's the role?
We're seeking a talented Politics Reporter to join our team at News Corp Australia. As a key member of our newsroom, you'll be responsible for covering breaking news stories and providing high-quality content for our mastheads, news.com.au, and external clients.
This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our office in Parliament House, Canberra. You'll work closely with our existing team to deliver engaging and accurate news stories, and develop strong relationships with key political players.
Key Responsibilities
• Pitch and generate original news stories and ideas
• Break political news stories
• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date calendar
• File engaging copy to strict deadlines
• Develop and maintain good relationships with key political players
• Liaise with CoS (Politics) on daily coverage, planning, and key events
• Respond to breaking news events outside of rostered hours when required
Who are you?
• At least two years of journalism/newsroom experience, preferably in political reporting
• Ability to cut through spin and get to the heart of issues in an engaging way for readers
• Previous experience covering breaking news
• Excellent time management skills
• Capable of multitasking and working under strict deadlines
• Team player with strong communication skills
• Keen attention to detail
• Able to simplify complex topics for a broad audience
• Flexibility around working day and hours
