The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineering Lead to join our team in Melbourne. As the Data Engineering Lead, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable data architectures, pipelines, and data transformation processes. You will be responsible for operational excellence and cost efficiencies of the Data Lakehouse platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the technical implementation of future data projects across the project lifecycle (Plan, Design, Build & Maintain).
  2. Provide technical governance for the Data Lakehouse and ensure adequate documentation is maintained.
  3. Lead the development of required data pipelines, data transformations, and maintain the Enterprise Data Model, connecting organisation-wide data to support our company strategy.
  4. Organise data into usable formats and a company-wide taxonomy to enable the effective categorisation and sharing of data across Urbis.
  5. Develop and lead the data operations practice ensuring agreed SLAs are met.
  6. Support our Head of Data & Applications in identifying ongoing revenue/commercialisation opportunities for the company.
  7. Understand business problems and desired outcomes to design data solutions that are efficient & scalable; able to present these solutions to business stakeholders.
  8. Keep up to date with the latest innovations in the sector including digital twins, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies that can be applied at Urbis and Cistri.
  9. Provide strong personal, people, and team leadership, demonstrated by the ability to coach, develop, and support the development of team members, including providing timely and constructive feedback to support high performance.
About You:
  1. Tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Computer Science or a related field.
  2. Hands-on experience creating data pipelines using Python notebooks.
  3. Experience in Azure CI/CD pipelines and managing infrastructure as code.
  4. At least 5 years' experience in data engineering role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Azure Cloud computing platform (specifically Synapse); Expert Azure certifications (Azure Solutions Architect and/or Azure DevOps Engineer) desirable.
  6. Proficiency with SQL, Python, and other data manipulation languages.
  7. Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data architecture best practices.
  8. Experience with Power BI administration and integration to Data Lakehouse.
  9. Demonstrable experience and proficiency with strong technical skills in the following:
    1. Data engineering
    2. Data classification and management
    3. Data pipeline management
    4. Data operations & SLA Management
  10. Strong understanding of data governance and taxonomy.
  11. A passion for the application of data to urban design and planning, with an understanding of the complexities of urban systems.
  12. Experience with process improvement methodologies in data management.
  13. A background in technical consulting is desirable.
