Job Description

The Locomotive Lead is responsible for overseeing the delivery of locomotive projects. This involves working with rail operations and maintenance teams, as well as construction teams to ensure safety, quality, and schedule compliance.

The role includes managing design reviews, prototyping activities, design optimisation, and approvals within project requirements.

This position is based in Perth, with travel to site as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage primary contractors to deliver locomotive scope against agreed schedules.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in project and operational teams.
  • Review design submissions to ensure compliance with requirements and relevant standards.
  • Manage change within Rail Systems Engineering Framework.
  • Support construction team with safety, quality, technical queries, and rolling stock logistics during construction phase.
  • Report on construction activities and deliverables against project schedule and key milestones.
  • Review and adapt execution strategy as project landscape evolves.
  • Assist commission team and drive completion of construction activities to meet commissioning targets.
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance processes.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement and interface with asset owners.
  • Manage administration of workshops and meetings between contractor and stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering support for responses to technical queries and reports.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A strong commitment to safety.
  • Technical experience in Rollingstock and major project delivery.
  • An Electrical/Mechanical Engineering degree or career experience in rail industry.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work within integrated team and effectively under pressure.
  • A structured approach with strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve complex issues.
