About Our Apprentice Program

We are seeking motivated individuals to join our exciting apprentice program for 2026 at Transgrid.

At the heart of the National Electricity Market, our high voltage transmission network connects more than 3.5 million homes and businesses across New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) to deliver safe and reliable electricity.

As an apprentice with Transgrid, you will have the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects that will shape the future of the energy industry in Australia, including connecting renewable energy to the network.

You will be part of a collaborative environment where new ideas and knowledge sharing are encouraged, and where you'll be supported through opportunities to develop and achieve your full potential.

This is an exciting time in the energy industry with the transition to renewable energy. Recent government policy documents outline plans to facilitate increasing transmission interconnection between states and development of renewable energy zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage transmission equipment
  • Work alongside experienced technicians to develop your skills and knowledge
  • Participate in structured technical capability development programs in a variety of specialist areas
  • Contribute to innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Develop your skills in welding, hand-tools, and workshop machinery
  • Gain nationally accredited safety training and various high risk licences
  • Work in a team environment to achieve project goals

Requirements

  • Completed high school studies (minimum year 10 or equivalent) by the end of 2025 and have sound mathematics and communication skills
  • A genuine interest in a trade working within a high voltage electricity transmission network
  • A current driver's licence prior to starting the program or be willing to obtain one as soon as possible after appointment
  • Environmentally and socially responsible
  • A team player, motivated and willing to learn
  • Able to think laterally and to provide input to innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Able to work well with others
  • A clear communicator
  • Appreciative and sensitive of difference and diversity
  • An Australian permanent resident or an Australian or New Zealand citizen
  • Ability to travel and work away from home at various locations when required
