This role requires strong collaboration with Legal, Technology, Risk, Information Security, and operational teams to manage risks, strengthen practices, and respond effectively to data incidents.
The Senior Specialist provides clear strategic advice to executives and the Board, helping drive a culture of responsibility, transparency, and forward-thinking compliance.
Responsibilities include:
- Shape and deliver our organisation's data governance strategy, aligning with broader business goals
- Build a strong culture of data responsibility and continuous learning
- Embed data governance into major technology initiatives such as cloud, analytics, and artificial intelligence
- Provide clear direction and advice to executives and the Board on data matters
- Act as a trusted advisor across the enterprise on all aspects of data protection
Additionally, this role involves:
- Ensure compliance with privacy laws across Australia, New Zealand, and other jurisdictions
- Lead data risk and impact assessments, incident responses, and audits
- Strengthen data awareness through training and education across all teams
- Collaborate with Legal, Technology, and operational leaders to embed data controls
- Support integration of data practices during mergers, acquisitions, and business growth
Qualifications for this role include:
- Experience in creating a data governance roadmap within a complex organisation operating in multiple regions
- Expert knowledge of privacy laws spanning Australia & New Zealand
- Skilled at applying data governance in technology strategies, including artificial intelligence and cloud platforms
- Strong capability in managing the data journey end-to-end, from collection through to minimisation and secure disposal
- Proven track record in designing and sustaining data frameworks that reflect best practice
- Confident project leader with the ability to engage stakeholders and communicate clearly at all levels
- Background in Legal, Audit, or Risk functions highly regarded
- Recognised for integrity, independence, and sound judgement when navigating sensitive compliance issues
