Statistical Modelling Opportunities

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to join our academic community at Macquarie University.

The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences is home to a vibrant community of scholars who are passionate about advancing knowledge in the fields of applied mathematics, astronomy, physics, pure mathematics, and statistics.

  • Developing model visualisation methods to enable interactive and dynamic model building;
  • Robust selection and estimation in regression type models;
  • Variable selection and inference for statistically challenging data, including longitudinal, clustered, and correlated univariate and multivariate responses;
  • Investigating theoretical properties of regularization methods in various asymptotic scenarios and improving these methods by learning from resampling-based stability information;
  • Classification and improved prediction methods for multiplatform data;

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in statistical modelling or a closely related area, with demonstrated ability to publish in the scientific literature, support research programs, and supervise postgraduate students.

They will also possess strong written and oral communication skills, advanced computing skills, including programming in R, and experience presenting research results at seminars and/or scientific meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in statistical modelling, focusing on developing new methods and techniques;
  • Analyse complex data sets, identifying trends and patterns, and making recommendations for improvement;
  • Collaborate with academics and researchers, contributing to interdisciplinary projects and initiatives;

Requirements:

  • PhD in statistical modelling or a closely related area;
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in the scientific literature;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Advanced computing skills, including programming in R;
  • Experience presenting research results at seminars and/or scientific meetings;
