A key aspect of this role involves collaborating with other engineers to drive improvements through clear design documents, influencing designs, and running meetings. This engineer will guide major projects, assisting in realistic task breakdowns and ensuring synchronization within and across teams using exceptional communication skills.

An added dimension to this role involves providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them navigate complex technical challenges and fostering their professional growth.

About You
  • 10+ years of experience developing sophisticated distributed web applications on the JVM.
  • Expertise in Java, with experience in other backend languages such as Scala, Python, and Typescript.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous or reactive programming techniques and associated patterns.
  • Deep understanding of computer science and engineering fundamentals: concurrency, data structures, and distributed systems.

The API Platform consists of multiple teams, each contributing to provide essential tools and libraries empowering our engineers to scale our backend services efficiently.

We are responsible for the components combining to build Canva's backend services, enabling seamless communication between these services.

We face numerous challenges as we aim to upgrade our platform capabilities, readying it for 1 billion monthly active users.
