Structural Engineer Job Description

The Snowy 2.0 project is a large-scale undertaking that requires the collaboration of multiple engineering teams to deliver one of the world's largest pumped hydro schemes.

This iconic project aims to provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for future generations by leveraging the expertise of structural engineers in fabrication and assembly operations.

The Structural Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that all fabricated structural components meet engineering specifications, project requirements, and relevant Australian Standards.

Key responsibilities include technical oversight, design support, quality control, workshop collaboration, problem-solving, documentation, tooling and safety input, communication, and occasional site interface.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of steel design, welding specifications, and fabrication standards, as well as practical experience with fabrication processes and workshop operations.

They will also possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, team collaboration skills, and flexibility in switching between paperwork, QA, and on-the-floor advice.

  • Review structural drawings and shop fabrication plans to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Liaise with design engineers to resolve drawing errors and improve fabrication outcomes.
  • Monitor workshop outputs for compliance with AS 4100, AS 1554, and AS/NZS 5131.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to boilermakers, welders, and supervisors.
  • Triage fabrication challenges on the floor, including material issues and fabrication variances.
