Job Overview

This role focuses on assessing and developing individual/group physical therapy treatments to promote mobility, reduce pain, restore function, prevent permanent disability, and restore independence.

  • The ideal candidate will have 3 years' experience as a licensed Physical Therapist and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, analytical abilities, and clinical competence.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of in and outpatients with physical and functional deficits.
  2. Develop and implement individual/group physical therapy treatments to promote mobility, reduce pain, restore function, prevent permanent disability, and restore independence.
  3. Collaborate with other disciplines to arrange for appropriate follow-up care and facilitate a successful return to home and work environments.
  4. Provide student training according to departmental guidelines and participate in continuous education.
  5. Respond to all consults within 24 hours, complete evaluation and documentation within 24 hours, and review patient records to gather necessary information.
  6. Select evaluation procedures that reflect understanding of the patient's diagnosis, abilities, and limitations, and adapt them as indicated to accommodate specific patient needs.
  7. Educate patients and caregivers regarding evaluation findings and management of care recommendations.
  8. Establish treatment goals and plans that reflect patient needs, meet departmental requirements, and are measurable and attainable.
  9. Modify goals as warranted by changes in patient status, assess discharge needs, and communicate patient care and discharge needs to team members.
  10. Implement comprehensive individual and group treatment, consistently demonstrating clinical competence and using creative treatment approaches.
  11. Progress patient treatment programs appropriately, terminate them as warranted, and recommend assistive devices or durable medical equipment as needed.
  12. Develop and instruct patient and caregiver in home programs and/or use of recommended equipment, establish therapeutic relationships, and engage patients in treatment.
  13. Monitor clinical supplies, request replacements in a timely manner, and comply with departmental, institutional, and accrediting agency policies and standards.
  14. Complete area-specific documentation accurately and thoroughly, issue supplies/adaptive equipment cost-effectively, and meet productivity standards at least 95% of the time.
  15. Participate in peer review, complete mandatory requirements, show evidence of ongoing professional growth, and stay current with advances in physical therapy treatments and techniques.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's / Master's / Doctorate or equivalent in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution; Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts license.
  • APTA and MCAPTA membership preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year experience at Boston Medical Center.
