About the Opportunity

The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Officer to join their technical staff team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to the school's manufacturing laboratories, overseeing the operation and maintenance of laboratory materials and equipment, and working with staff and students to design and construct experimental rigs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to the school's manufacturing laboratories, including the operation and maintenance of laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Work with staff and students to design and construct experimental rigs.
  • Oversee the purchasing of chemicals, equipment, and other materials in compliance with statutory and University requirements.
  • Implement safety systems and initiatives, including training students and/or staff in safe working practices in a complex laboratory environment.
  • Manage competing deadlines and work independently and as part of a wider technical team.
Requirements
  • A relevant qualification with subsequent practical experience and/or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Experience in Mechatronics, including electrical/electronic design, MCU programming, robot design, and programming.
  • Proficient computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a focus on understanding business requirements and translating them into technical concepts and written technical documentation.
