We are seeking a degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the optimisation of manufacturing systems, equipment performance, and production workflows.
This hands-on role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a production environment but brings a design and systems-thinking approach to continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in operating and improving laser cutting machinery, supporting mechanical design projects, optimising plant operations, and maintaining high engineering and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the design and development of components, assemblies, and tooling using CAD software; apply engineering principles to improve fabrication and production processes.
- Operate and maintain CNC laser cutting machines; coordinate equipment setup and oversee production workflows to ensure output quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Identify and resolve mechanical issues affecting equipment performance; assist in preventive maintenance planning and execution.
- Analyse workflows and plant layout to drive continuous improvement; ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
- Safely operate a forklift to transport materials and components in support of production activities.
- Maintain accurate records of engineering activities, modifications, and audits; work closely with engineers, production, and QA teams to align operations with technical and quality standards.
About you:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial engineering
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, process flow, and equipment performance metrics
- Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD)
- Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems and implement practical solutions
- Knowledge of Australian WHS and engineering safety standards
- Excellent analytical, communication and documentation skills
- Experience in metal fabrication or laser cutting environments
- Exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
