Key Qualifications & Experiences

  • A proven track record in support work or similar roles, with a focus on supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and managing challenging behaviours.
  • Experience working with complex behaviours and mental health.
  • Proficiency in personal care tasks, including familiarity with medication processes and knowledge of diabetes management (desirable).
  • Current certifications in First Aid and CPR, along with a valid Police Check.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team and autonomously.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Qualifications in disability, community services, nursing, and/or aged care are highly regarded.
  • Assistant in Nursing (AIN) qualification.
  • Experience with hoists and other manual handling equipment.
  • Experience working in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment.

Job Description

As a Support Worker, you will help individuals live their lives as independently as possible, enabling them to reach their potential through practical and emotional support.

You'll assist with daily routines, community access, medication, personal care, and domestic tasks, while also supporting skill development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing emotional support for individuals and their families.
  • Assistance with household tasks, daily routines, and teaching life skills like budgeting and bill payments.
  • Developing and building confidence, self-esteem, and social skills, including managing challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Becoming a role model and companion.
  • Professional documentation, including accurate and detailed shift reports, incident reports, and progress notes.
  • Promoting empowerment and choice for all participants.
  • Showing initiative.

Availability for sleepover shifts and weekend work is essential, with flexibility to work AM and PM shifts.
