Job Opportunity: Senior Underwriter Role

The role of the Senior Underwriter is a key position within our organisation, responsible for personal underwriting of medium to complex risks within portfolios. The primary objective of this role is to underwrite new accounts in accordance with guidelines and core sectors within delegated underwriting authority.

This function directly supports business growth while maintaining underwriting excellence. The Senior Underwriter will also provide essential support for renewal processes to ensure portfolio stability and retention.

A fundamental aspect of this role involves developing and nurturing business from allocated panels of Independent and Global brokers. The Senior Underwriter must demonstrate ability to establish and maintain strong broker relationships with persistence and professional skill in pursuing target accounts.

Additionally, they will be responsible for creating and executing targeted business plans to maximise opportunities within assigned broker panels. Within our organisation, the Senior Underwriter serves as technical resource and mentor, coaching and developing less experienced staff in both technical underwriting principles and interpersonal skills.

The position requires someone who can demonstrate enthusiasm for core markets while making sound underwriting decisions, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and management. The ideal candidate will embody commitment to disciplined underwriting while actively driving new business development to achieve portfolio growth and profitability targets in alignment with strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop key broker relationships through consistent visitation, ensuring that customer service is provided on high level.
  • Support implementation of Pricing Strategy and referral philosophy.
  • Personal underwriting of predominant New Business and certain renewal policies, schemes and endorsements with more complex risks within region's portfolio
  • Develop and execute new business opportunities interacting with existing and new brokers.
  • Assist Region Manager and Product Team in underwriting and management of Commercial & Corporate policies/portfolio of business

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant insurance experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of property underwriting and understanding of manuscript and agreed policy wordings.
  • Ability to plan and action portfolio and business specific activities including coordination of activities with other lines of business and departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and constructive working relationships with key stakeholders.
