The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Researcher to join our team at the Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute (ADFMIDI). As a Researcher, you will play a key role in investigating population genomics and population genetics of pathogens, including malaria parasites, arboviruses, and bacteria.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, lead, and perform genomic and genetic analysis on human samples collected through health surveillances conducted in various countries.
  • Identify pathogens, characterize genetic profiles or changes that pose threats to effectiveness of counter measures, and determine their prevalence, distribution, origin, and evolution.
  • Collaborate with the team to design and conduct research independently and with external teams.
  • Develop and implement genomic and genetic techniques, data analysis tools, and statistical analysis methods.
About Our Team

The position is part of the Drug Resistance and Diagnostic Department at ADFMIDI, with a mission to improve malaria diagnosis and monitor malaria drug resistance to inform ADF diagnosis and treatment policies. Our team includes ADF, Australian Public Servants, and scientists from QIMR-Berghofer Medical Research Institute.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge and research experience in pathogen genomics and population genetics.
  • Experience in genomic and genetic techniques, data analysis tools, and statistical analysis methods.
  • Proven track record of scientific publications.
  • Knowledge and skills in statistical analysis are highly desirable.
What We Offer

We offer a dynamic and collaborative work environment, opportunities for professional growth and development, and a competitive salary package.
