Job Title: Child Protection Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated professional to fill the role of Child Protection Specialist.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments to identify and address safety and risk concerns for children and young people within a multi-disciplinary service model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake thorough assessments to pinpoint potential risks and develop evidence-based solutions.
  • Engage in collaborative practice, acknowledging and respecting the unique needs and circumstances of each child, young person, and their family.
  • Source and analyze timely, accurate information to inform decision-making and ensure optimal outcomes for children and families.
  • Model best practices in casework, remaining responsive to the evolving needs of children, young people, and families.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including partner agencies, to promote coordinated services and meaningful change in families.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments through continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain precise and objective client records for reporting and information sharing purposes.
  • Facilitate constructive dialogue about sensitive topics with children, young people, families, and key stakeholders to mitigate risks and enhance overall well-being.
  • Initiate actions in the Children's Court as necessary to safeguard and support vulnerable children and families.

As a successful Child Protection Specialist, you will possess excellent communication skills, a strong ability to build positive working relationships, and a commitment to delivering high-quality services that prioritize the needs and safety of children and families.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in statutory child protection services or related fields.
  • Preferred qualifications include a degree in Social Work, Social Science, or Welfare, with relevant practical experience.
  • Other related degrees may be considered if accompanied by relevant knowledge, skills, and experience in working with vulnerable populations.
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants with a strong connection to their community are encouraged to apply.
  • Valid driver's license (P1 or above).
  • Paid working with children clearance number.
