Ethics Committee Lawyer Position at University of Tasmania

University of Tasmania seeks to appoint a highly skilled lawyer as a member of its Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).
A HREC Lawyer member is defined in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research as a Category E member – a qualified lawyer, who may or may not be currently practicing and, where possible, is not engaged to advise the institution on research-related or any other matters.
This significant role within our institution contributes to the oversight and management of ethical considerations in research projects. The incumbent will oversee the implementation of national guidelines, Tasmanian legislature, UTAS policies, procedures, guidelines, and support an embedded culture of ethical conduct and research excellence.
The position involves attending 1-2 meetings per month of approximately 2 hours duration, plus allocating some time for preparation (reading and reviewing applications). Meetings are held via Zoom.
To be eligible for this position, you must have Australian citizenship, permanent residence or a current valid visa that allows you to fulfill the requirements of this role.
We offer a competitive salary for this position. As a rough estimate, based on industry standards and location, we anticipate the salary to be around AU$120,000 - AU$150,000 per annum.
You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with others. A strong understanding of ethics and the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context are essential.
