We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Chief Scientist. As a key member of our laboratory operations team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of our laboratory, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Planning and Management: Develop and implement operational plans and budgets for the laboratory, ensuring that we meet our business objectives and maintain a high level of efficiency.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and report on laboratory performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Business Planning and Development: Develop and submit detailed business plans for the laboratory, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Employee Management: Manage the performance of laboratory staff, providing coaching and development opportunities to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
- WHS Management: Implement and comply with all aspects of our WHS plan, ensuring that the laboratory is a safe and healthy work environment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the laboratory complies with all relevant regulations and standards, including NATA, TGA, and NPACC.
- Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in laboratory science and technology, sharing your knowledge and expertise with colleagues and contributing to the development of our laboratory.
- Change Management: Lead and manage change initiatives in the laboratory, ensuring that they are implemented smoothly and with minimal disruption to our operations.
- Instrumentation and Equipment: Manage the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instrumentation and equipment, ensuring that they are in good working order and meet our quality and safety standards.
- Quality Control and Assurance: Develop and implement quality control and assurance procedures, ensuring that our laboratory meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.
- IT and Quality Systems: Manage the laboratory's IT and quality systems, ensuring that they are up-to-date and meet our business needs.
- Communication and Problem-Solving: Develop and maintain effective communication and problem-solving skills, working with colleagues and stakeholders to resolve issues and improve our laboratory operations.
To be considered for this role, you will need to have a strong background in laboratory science and management, with experience in leading and managing teams. You will also need to have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Requirements- Tertiary Qualification: A suitable tertiary qualification in science or a related field, with a strong focus on laboratory science and management.
- Experience: At least 8 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Skills: Specialist biochemistry skills in a pathology discipline, with experience in staff training and supervision. Diagnostic skills relating to biochemistry and toxicology, as well as knowledge of current Australian standards relating to NPAAC, NATA, and TGA.
- WHS Knowledge: A strong understanding of WHS policies and procedures in a laboratory environment, with the ability to provide effective training and coaching to staff.
- Travel and Flexibility: Willingness to travel interstate and flexibility with hours, including after-hours and weekend work.
- Clearances: Full immunity against Hepatitis B and COVID-19, with a current satisfactory National Police Certificate.
