Job Overview

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to improving Indigenous health outcomes by reducing tobacco smoking as the most significant risk factor for chronic disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in our region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Public Health staff in delivering smoking prevention and cessation campaigns, information sessions, and community events that meet relevant guidelines and policies
  • Develop effective relationships with local communities
  • Uphold organisational vision, mission, and priorities as determined by senior leadership
  • Ensure all program materials are up-to-date, engaging, and relevant to the target audience
  • Undertake administrative tasks in line with program expectations, as directed
  • Document and manage electronic client data records and registers
  • Contribute to a culturally safe working environment
  • Represent the program when collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Work within confidentiality and privacy limits
  • Travel to remote communities to deliver the program
  • Participate in staff training and development
Requirements
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training
  • Experience working in Aboriginal Community health or welfare services
  • Ability to support the delivery of culturally responsive programs and services
  • Understanding and respect of traditional cultures, values, and protocols
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective networks and relationships, particularly with diverse Aboriginal community groups
  • Good time management and ability to complete tasks before due dates
  • Good communication skills, and ability to work with colleagues and other teams
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
  • Able to create promotional and educational material such as posters
