About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Town Planner to join our Development Assessment team at Blacktown City Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in processing significant development applications, including those requiring reporting to the Sydney Planning Panel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake development application assessments and other planning tasks in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with Council's statutory responsibilities, policies, and procedures.
  • Process complex development applications, including those requiring coordination with other disciplines and professionals.
  • Develop and implement short-term and long-term objectives, with follow-up performance monitoring.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in Town Planning.
  • Significant experience as a Town Planner, particularly in the assessment of development applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policies.
  • Current class 'C' driver's license.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and State Environmental Planning Policies.
  • Experience in processing complex development applications for consideration and determination by the State Planning Panel and Blacktown Local Planning Panel.
  • Effective computer skills, with proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Superior communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
