Government Engagement Specialist Role

The role is based in either Canberra or Sydney, with regular travel required. This is a 6 month contract position.

The Government Engagement team is part of AEMO's Government & Stakeholder Division. As a member of this team, the successful candidate will work with colleagues within the team and across AEMO to facilitate extensive engagement with government across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support the execution of government engagement strategic objectives.
  2. Establish and build relationships of trust and credibility with governments.
  3. Assist in the preparation, organisation and review of papers, briefings, policies, and reports.
  4. Monitor and report on emerging government issues; manage government-related events, issues, and briefings; and serve as the point of contact for government.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated experience in a similar position undertaking government relations within Australia in a complex, issues-rich environment.
  2. Experience and knowledge of Australia's electricity and gas sectors.
  3. A detailed understanding of the machinery of government, including direct experience liaising at senior Departmental and Ministerial office level, with preference for Federal experience.
  4. Strong networks and reputation established with governments, with preference for Federal government.
Education Requirements
  1. Tertiary qualifications in business, policy, commerce, economics, law or related discipline, or significant experience of parity.
