About the Role
The Maintenance Officer is responsible for ensuring school buildings and facilities are well-maintained and meet safety standards. This includes tasks such as maintaining building exteriors, removing rubbish and recycling materials, and assisting with other general duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting regular inspections and updating maintenance records.
- Maintaining tools and equipment in good condition.
- Ensuring buildings, play areas, and fixtures are safe and functional.
- Documenting maintenance activities for administrative and safety purposes.
- Coordinating with contractors to ensure project compliance.
In terms of safety, the officer must:
- Adhere to safety policies and maintain facilities.
- Provide personal protective equipment and verify contractor compliance.
- Assist with safety inspections and participate in related activities.
The role also involves ongoing training and promoting a safe working environment.
About You
You will be a dedicated professional committed to ensuring our school buildings and facilities are maintained to a high standard. As a valued member of the team, you will carry out a range of tasks to keep our physical environment safe and functional, adhering to strict safety guidelines.
In this role, you will consistently maintain building exteriors, ensuring cleanliness and effective waste management. You will also assist with various general tasks as directed, demonstrating adaptability and a strong commitment to teamwork.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Coordinator, you will work closely with fellow Maintenance Officers, contributing to a cohesive team that prioritizes safety and operational excellence. Your attention to detail and dedication to maintaining a positive learning environment will greatly enhance the experience for both students and staff.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Comprehensive technical skills and experience in building and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to apply skills in construction, maintenance, and repair tasks using precision hand and power tools and equipment.
- Gardening maintenance skills, knowledge, and experience, including garden and turf management.
- Knowledge and ability to safely operate minor plant and equipment.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and take initiative.
- Ability to plan, analyze, and evaluate information from various sources, applying solutions to a range of problems.
- Good organizational skills, including flexibility, prioritizing, and responding calmly to challenging situations.
- Leadership and best practice WHS.
- Understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- A neat and tidy standard of dress, promoting safety and meeting practical demands.
