About the Role

Mercy Community Services is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Intervention Specialist to join their dedicated team in Toowoomba.

This permanent full-time position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families working with Child Safety Services. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team supporting families to achieve sustainable outcomes and timely withdrawal of services.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Collaborate with families and key stakeholders to develop and implement tailored intervention plans, promoting the safety and wellbeing of children within the family unit.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of family resources, identifying strengths and areas for growth to inform effective support strategies.
  • Work closely with families to action Child Safety case plan goals, leveraging their existing resources and connecting them to relevant community services as needed.
  • Deliver evidence-based programs and provide interventions to enhance family knowledge, skills, and capacity to ensure the safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Maintain a current awareness of local community resources to broaden options available to vulnerable families and work collaboratively with these services to promote positive outcomes.
  • Operate in structured and time-focused ways with families across various settings, including home visits, to encourage and support family goal achievement and sustainable outcomes.
  • Engage in informed dialogue with Child Safety Services to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Make recommendations to Child Safety Services regarding decisions involving children, ensuring the best interests of the child are prioritized.
About You
  • Hold a degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • possess sound knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Child Protection system.
  • be in possession of a valid Queensland Provisional Green or above Driver's Licence.
  • demonstrate the ability to obtain a positive notice in the legislatively required personal history check.
  • evidence current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain it.
  • previous experience in strengths-based casework with complex families is highly desirable.
