About the Role

The Behavioural Support Specialist will provide expertise to staff in positive behaviour support and therapeutic support. This role will require the use of knowledge and experience to provide evidence-based and behaviour-focused supports to clients in various environments, with a focus on person-centred interventions to address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern or challenging behaviours.

This role will work with Disability clients and have a caseload of NDIS participants. A day in the life as our Behavioural Support Specialist will involve:

  • Developing individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person's needs, reducing the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern, and minimising the use of restrictive practices.
  • Undertaking functional behavioural assessments to develop behaviour support plans containing evidence-based, proactive, and reactive strategies that meet the specific needs of the person displaying behaviour of concern.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring behaviour support plans that meet CareChoice and NDIS requirements in consultation with the person with disability, their family, carers, and other relevant people and service providers who will be implementing the plan.
  • Developing person-centred interventions to address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require specialist behaviour support.
  • Ensuring that any interventions are in accordance with best practice, evidence-based contemporary positive behaviour support for individuals with behaviours of concern.
  • Planning and delivering behaviour support approaches that comply with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework and OH&S legislation.
  • Ensuring staff are appropriately trained to implement positive behaviour strategies or use restrictive practices.
  • Facilitating planning and training events using approaches that promote team development, person-centred thinking, and positive behavioural support to develop individual plans and practical strategies leading to life-enhancing outcomes.
About You

We're looking for a Behavioural Support Specialist with a proactive attitude, high degree of initiative, and strong desire to achieve outstanding outcomes for our clients and staff, with a focus on person-centred interventions to address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern or challenging behaviours.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology qualified to deliver behaviour support services.
  • Experience in the disability, counselling, family services, or mental health sectors.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision.

Qualifications required:

  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
