Social Science PhD Opportunity in Artificial Intelligence for Clean Energy and Sustainability

Monash University is seeking a highly motivated and outstanding PhD candidate to join our Energy Futures research programme. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Professor Sarah Pink and Professor Yolande Strengers on a project that explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and energy systems.
The project aims to investigate how everyday people will experience and engage with AI to support better energy outcomes. The successful candidate will conduct ethnographic research in Australia, examining how AI systems can be designed to align with diverse people's priorities, values, and routines in support of a sustainable energy transition.
The PhD project will contribute to the development of new methodologies for understanding and achieving inclusive energy futures. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a world-class research team and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct ethnographic research in Australia to investigate how everyday people will experience and engage with AI to support better energy outcomes
- Design and develop AI systems that align with diverse people's priorities, values, and routines in support of a sustainable energy transition
- Contribute to the development of new methodologies for understanding and achieving inclusive energy futures
- Work with a world-class research team to develop innovative solutions for the energy sector
- Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in qualitative social science (sociology, anthropology, human geography, or Science and Technology Studies)
- Training and experience in ethnographic research
- Strong research skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A fully funded PhD scholarship
