Canberra, ACT, Australia Australian Defence Force Full time

As a Lead Naval Engineer with the Australian Defence Force, you'll embark on an extraordinary journey that combines cutting-edge technology and leadership development. This unique opportunity will allow you to gain invaluable experience as part of the engineering team responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of advanced submarines.

With this role, you'll be immersed in the world of Navy innovation, working closely with a team of highly trained technicians to ensure the submarine is fully operational to undertake its mission. You'll be exposed to a range of engineering systems, including battery plant management, propulsion, power generation, ventilation, and more. Your experience will be varied, providing you with a broad skill set that's transferable to other management and leadership positions.

This isn't just reserved for individuals straight out of school; it's a chance to try out a year in the Navy, working alongside fully qualified engineers, without requiring any prior qualifications. You'll receive a competitive salary and be provided with the opportunity to travel and gain invaluable life and work experience. Additionally, you'll have the chance to make friendships that could last a lifetime.

You'll be supported throughout your training by professional and enthusiastic Navy personnel who will provide the necessary guidance for you to get the most out of this experience. Your Gap Year will be broken up into different stages, allowing you to receive basic training and tour Navy's shore establishments. You'll experience life at sea, as well as what it's like to be employed ashore. As a Navy Gap Year officer, you'll be given the opportunity to contribute to the operation of the ship or unit.

Your training will begin at the Royal Australian Naval College (RANC), HMAS Creswell in Jervis Bay, NSW, where you'll complete a 15-week course alongside other new Navy officers before continuing with the program. RANC is an energetic environment that will challenge you to meet Navy standards of fitness, demeanour, and behaviour. Coupled with the highest standard of leadership training, the skills you'll gain across this role will provide you with a unique edge.

The estimated annual salary for this position is around $80,000-$100,000 AUD, depending on factors such as location and level of experience. However, please note that this is not a traditional salary and may vary based on individual circumstances.
