The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the scientific, technical, and operational activities of the Infectious Diseases Laboratory. This includes ensuring a high-quality service for routine high throughput molecular testing and preparedness for future pandemics.

In collaboration with the Molecular Management Committee, the candidate will determine procedures and methods to be used in the section through the application of highly developed scientific skills in microbiology and virology.

The candidate will also be responsible for the initiation and supervision of research projects that have been identified as being of clinical relevance to Pathology Queensland.

Key Competencies
  • Advanced level of knowledge, expertise, and skills in high throughput molecular diagnostics in a pathology setting.
  • Skills in developing and validating assays in molecular diagnostics within a Microbiology laboratory.
  • Ability to provide advice state-wide on a broad range of issues pertaining to service delivery and results issued by the Infectious Disease Laboratory.
  • Ability to provide scientific services to ensure the maintenance of regulatory clinical standards and established principles/procedures.
  • Ability to lead change through quality and service improvement activities and provide supervision of personnel.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Tertiary Degree in Science (or equivalent degree qualification).
  • Post Graduate qualification in Science and/or Management would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and provide support to colleagues.
