About the Role

We are seeking a culturally responsive counsellor to join our team

Job Summary: As an Aboriginal Counsellor, you will provide trauma-informed support to Aboriginal individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence, sexual assault, and mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma-informed therapeutic support tailored to individuals and families, including risk assessments, safety planning, and advocacy, with a deep respect for cultural needs.
  • Work closely with Aboriginal communities and service partners, building strong, respectful relationships to enhance access to culturally appropriate services.
  • Conduct client assessments, manage cases, and participate in collaborative planning, ensuring all support aligns with cultural and therapeutic best practices.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call roster to provide crisis intervention, ensuring a reliable support system for those affected by sexual violence.

About You

  • Relevant qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, with professional registration and demonstrated experience in trauma and therapeutic support for Aboriginal communities.
  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural needs, intergenerational trauma, and a commitment to supporting community wellbeing.
  • Experience in community engagement, risk assessment, and counselling, with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with Aboriginal communities.
  • Willingness to participate in continuous professional development, including clinical and cultural supervision and relevant training.

Essential Requirements:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Current NSW driver's license and willingness to travel as part of the role
