Are you an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Social Worker Level 3, Social Worker Level 4, Psychologist, Senior Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist with experience supporting people who have been impacted by violence? Do you have counselling skills and are someone who likes to take innovative approaches to complex situations? Do you have an understanding of the children who use harmful sexual behaviour? Are you passionate about supporting people throughout their healing journey?


Then you could be the perfect person to join the ISLHD New Street team located on the lands of the Dharawal and Yuin nations. We’re looking for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Social Worker/Psychologist who:

- Has a degree in social work or psychology and full AHPRA registration.
- Has a minimum of three years’ post-graduate experience working with adults and young people with complex trauma.
- Has knowledge and understanding of the impacts of trauma on the brain and body.
- Has knowledge and is able to work with children who have sexually harmed and their families.
- Has a willingness to work in a co-therapy model of care.
- Understands the impact of colonisation, patriarchy and other social political systems that have impacted Indigenous Australian experience of violence and abuse.


This is a wonderful opportunity for a Social Worker/ Psychologist to join the New Street team. The position is part of a team of counsellors, providing long term family therapy for children and young people who sexually harm.

The role is based at Warilla Community Health Centre and Nowra Community Health Centre. A current, unrestricted NSW driver’s licence with the ability to travel to multiple locations is required.

**Selection Criteria**
- Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. This is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW). All applicants must supply a letter of Aboriginality signed under the Common Seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisation.
- Tertiary Degree in Social Work or other equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of AASW or Current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Demonstrated experience and knowledge, skills and experience in providing therapeutic treatment to children and young people who have sexually harmed another person and/or experienced abuse, with a minimum of 3 years clinical practice in the area of sexual assault, violence and abuse.
- Demonstrated understanding of dynamics of interfamilial child sexual abuse, contemporary principles of family focused integrated treatment including safety planning and risk assessment and an ability to engage and work positively with children and young people who have sexually harmed children.
- An understanding of the needs of Aboriginal communities, particularly in relation to intergenerational trauma, the Stolen Generations and Closing the Gap initiatives to reduce violence and abuse and community engagement experience building and maintaining positive relationships with Aboriginal services and communities.
