The role of Senior Data Centre Technician is crucial in supporting the Facility Manager with day-to-day operations by providing high-quality technical maintenance and customer service.

This position will also lead a team of Data Centre Technicians and participate in an on-call roster.

Responsibilities:
  • Excellent communication skills for handling customer escalations.
  • Evaluate all areas of risk from OH&S, security, to facility technical and critical system operations, policy and procedures to ensure customer services operate within an approved risk profile.
  • Provide integration and coordination into NEXTDC Facilities for infrastructure supporting critical support systems, power monitoring, and rack locking.
  • Assist with customer deliveries, handling equipment and assembly as required.
  • Collaborate with Facility and Business Framework teams to develop workflows, processes, policies, and procedures for facility and system operations.
  • Mentor and support up to six direct reports for continual improvement and professional development.
  • Monitor critical systems through Building Management Systems, diagnose failures, and escalate when necessary.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a similar role in a colocation facility or data centre.
  • Experience using test equipment to determine signal strength and traffic direction for diagnosing communication quality and faults.
  • OTDR competency to measure loss over network links.
  • Experience with fibre optic installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Electrical/Telecommunications experience and qualifications.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems and ability to identify critical systems.
