The Role: A Key Function in Our Finance Team
- Ensure accurate record-keeping to support the analysis and preparation of financial statements.
- Reconcile trust bank accounts with financial statements and maintain up-to-date accounting records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee movement of cashflows from trusts to offices, ensuring accuracy in partner financials and income.
- Conduct PEXA verifications for electronic property settlements.
- Correspond with legal teams and problem-solve in daily matters.
- Investigate financial discrepancies, prepare reports, assist in audits, and advise on matters.
- Implement internal controls, problem-solve, and conduct internal investigations to detect suspected fraud and breaches.
- Manage controlled monies - invest and withdraw funds and ensure trust compliance.
- Liaise with banks/financial institutions to establish investments.
- Execute payment plans while liaising with credit teams.
- Generate cheque requisitions while liaising with accounts payable teams for third-party payments.
- Coordinate and implement improvements post-annual external audits.
- Ensure compliance with trust accounting standards and policies as per Legal Profession Uniform Law in NSW, VIC, WA & QLD.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in trust accounting.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar discipline.
- Strong understanding of trust account regulations and reporting requirements.
- Proficient in accounting or practice management software and Microsoft office.
- Attention to detail, strong communication, time management abilities, and tactical problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and written skills.
- Strategic, analytical, and organized thinker.
- CPA or CA qualification desirable.
