Social Worker Truancy
">Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Social Worker to join our team in the Truancy area. The successful candidate will work closely with schools, preschools, parents, children, and other professionals to implement time-limited, evidence-based interventions to support the engagement, learning, and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people.
- This role requires high levels of professionalism, autonomy, and integrity, with a strong commitment to social justice, human rights, cultural safety, and the rights of all people to be treated with dignity and respect.
- You will advocate for and empower children, young people, and their families, work both independently and as part of a team, and provide support to help students reach their full potential in an educational context.
- This position receives professional support from the Senior Social Worker.
- Provide intensive support to children and young people who are experiencing difficulties at school, including developing and implementing individualised plans to improve attendance and academic performance.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to identify and address underlying issues that may be contributing to truancy or poor academic performance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with families and carers to understand their concerns and needs, and to provide guidance and support to help them access resources and services.
- Conduct home visits and other outreach activities to engage with families and children in their own environment.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on student progress, and contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to truancy and student welfare.
- An appropriate degree or equivalent which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Proven experience working with children, young people, and families in a social work or similar role.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build relationships and negotiate with a range of stakeholders.
- A strong understanding of child protection legislation and policy, and the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
- The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
