Key Role in Urban Development

This is a senior leadership position within the City Planning Department, focusing on strategic planning and expert advice to drive high-quality outcomes.

You will be responsible for providing specialist guidance, mentoring, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and compliance across the team.

As a respected member of the Local Government Planning team, you will represent Council at VCAT, offer expert advice, and gain access to leadership and acting opportunities internally.

  • Develop and implement effective statutory planning functions to provide an excellent service to the community.
  • Manage complex permit applications efficiently, ensuring adherence to State planning legislation.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice on planning applications, policies, and planning scheme requirements to the public and applicants.
  • Lead and mentor staff to build their technical capabilities and confidence, promoting consistent and efficient planning assessments.
  • Take charge of high-profile projects contributing positively to the development of a stronger, more viable city.
  • Contribute to the development of an integrated, streamlined development approvals system.

Eligibility criteria include a tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or equivalent, extensive experience in statutory planning within local government, and eligibility for corporate membership of the P.I.A. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
