The Australian BioResources (ABR) facility is a state-of-the-art centralised facility specialising in the breeding of congenic, mutant and genetically modified mouse lines. In addition to breeding and husbandry, the ABR facility offers specialised services including domestic and international import/export, rederivation, cryopreservation, and microinjection using the latest targeting technologies.
As an Animal Technician you will provide support for the care and maintenance of animals used in medical research. Your primary function will be to indirectly support research staff involved in animal research.
This position adds value to our organisation by providing animal care services freeing research staff to focus on scientific research outcomes. Effective and breakthrough scientific outcomes lead to further funding success helping towards our goal of prevention treatment or cure of major diseases.
Working within a delegated area your duties will include adherence to our Animal Ethics monitoring standards following strict monitoring welfare and husbandry procedures for breeding colonies. You will also perform tasks such as changing animal cages routine cleaning monitoring water and feed and diligently reporting health or behavioural abnormalities.
Additionally you will carry out basic manipulation techniques under supervision including injections bleeding techniques euthanasia post mortems administration of anaesthesia and routine use and maintenance of equipment. Accurate record keeping and administrative responsibilities are also essential aspects of this role.
