Safran Electronics & Defense Australasia Pty Ltd is a fully owned subsidiary delivering and supporting high performance optronics and inertial navigation equipment. Headquartered in Sydney, the company offers local expertise in integrating optronics and navigation systems for the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.
To ensure readiness for continued business growth, the company is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified Project Manager candidates. Reporting to the Head of Programs, the successful candidate will lead the delivery of assigned projects, applying PMI principles including scheduling, costing, tracking, and proactive leadership to achieve project outcomes.
About the Job- The role involves leading and managing projects from initiation through completion, ensuring delivery aligns with defined objectives and quality standards.
- A detailed Project Management Plan will be developed, outlining objectives, deliverables, resources, schedules, and risks.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to take on a challenging role that requires strong leadership skills, project management experience, and technical knowledge of Defence Acquisition and Sustainment contracts.
Key Responsibilities- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and allocating resources effectively.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including Gantt charts and resource allocation schedules.
- Lead cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, communication, and alignment of activities.
- Apply PMI standards across all project activities; develop precise schedules; manage budgets; update ETC; implement Earned Value Management (EVM) to monitor performance and forecast progress.
- Proactively identify and manage project risks and issues; report status, earned value metrics, and progress to stakeholders and senior management.
- Engage with customers, internal teams, and external stakeholders; communicate expectations, updates, and outcomes effectively.
- 5 years' experience in Project Management in Defence or similarly regulated environments.
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Specialised knowledge of naval sensor systems (e.g., optronics, IR tracking or similar).
- Proven project management track record with on-time, on-budget, and quality results.
- Analytical skills in risk assessment and performance measurement.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to manage diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Australian citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1.
- Customer focused; strong written and oral communication; proactive, autonomous, rigorous, organized; interest in advanced technologies; strong work ethic.
