About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Scientist to join our team, help our mining clients optimize their material identification and tracking processes, and support the growth of Capgemini's data and AI capabilities. The successful candidate will leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and data visualization techniques to enhance efficiency and accuracy with our natural resources clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead teams of data scientists, analysts, and engineers, providing mentorship and guidance on projects and throughout their career.
- Lead the development and implementation of data-driven solutions for our mining and natural resources clients.
- Collaborate with mining engineers and geologists to integrate geological data into analytical models.
- Support business development and pre-sales in Data and AI services within Engineering & Operations of our clients.
- Communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of data pipelines for continuous data collection and processing from various sensors and equipment.
- Apply data science and machine learning techniques for predictive maintenance, material recognition & tracking, asset & site operations, engineering, and product R&D.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in data science, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience applying machine learning and statistical modeling techniques to real-world problems.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, snowflake, or similar.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Knowledge of image processing and computer vision techniques.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in the mining industry, natural resources, or related fields (e.g., geology, geophysics) and understanding of the associated processes and operations.
- Familiarity with IoT sensors and data collection in industrial settings.
- Knowledge of GIS and spatial data analysis.
- Knowledge of computer vision, spectral analysis, RFID tracking, and GPS tracking techniques.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience in a consulting and professional services environment in proposal development.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
