About the Role

Fin Design + Effects is seeking a skilled Houdini Pipeline Technical Director to lead the development and maintenance of our Houdini pipeline and toolset. As a key member of our VFX team, you will work closely with artists, supervisors, and other technical departments to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow throughout the production process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain the Houdini pipeline and toolset to support the production needs of the VFX team.
  • Collaborate with the Head of CG and VFX Supervisors to identify and address technical challenges and requirements.
  • Write and optimize Houdini scripts, tools, and plugins to streamline the production pipeline and improve efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and debug technical issues related to Houdini, including performance optimization and rendering problems.
  • Create documentation and provide training to artists on the proper use of pipeline tools and workflows.
  • Collaborate with other technical departments to integrate and maintain cross-departmental workflows.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and techniques in VFX and Houdini, and make recommendations for process improvements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Houdini and its underlying programming language, Python.
  • Solid understanding of visual effects workflows, techniques, and best practices.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining VFX pipelines using Houdini in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming (Python, PySide/Qt, etc.) to automate tasks and create custom tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists, supervisors, and other technical departments.
