Monash University invites applications for a PhD scholarship opportunity that focuses on modelling the social and political drivers of net zero transitions. As part of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, this project aims to contribute to addressing the crucial gap in policy evaluation models by incorporating social and political hurdles and barriers to adoption.

Project Overview

This PhD project will support the development of a system dynamics model that incorporates a range of net zero technologies and lifestyle solutions along with social and political drivers and barriers to adoption. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary cohort of researchers and students based at Monash Sustainable Development Institute.

About the Role

  • Conduct research and develop a system dynamics model to guide policymakers in designing better strategies to overcome barriers, build momentum for change, and accelerate adoption of net zero solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior researchers and contribute to a research project funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) on modelling the technological, social and political drivers of the net zero transition.

Requirements

To be eligible for this opportunity, candidates must have a background in science and engineering or social science and policy analysis. Experience with systems modelling and/or research on sustainability transitions and transformations is highly regarded. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also required.

How to Apply

  • Submit a cover letter describing your research interests and why you would like to undertake a PhD.
  • Provide a CV including qualifications, academic achievements, list of publications, work history and references.
  • Attach a copy of your academic transcript(s).
