Job Summary

This role involves utilizing 2-D/3-D computer-aided design (CAD) to develop design models for civil/structural engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, and foundation.

The successful candidate will assist in the development of work plans and review work prepared by designers/drafters to ensure high-quality, accurate, complete, and compliant civil/structural designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads or administers work of civil/structural designers and drafters, including the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D CAD design models, and construction drawings.
  • Develops designs for complete and complex civil/structural engineering systems with minimal supervision, resulting in detailed scale models and/or construction drawings.
  • Assists in constructing detailed scale models.
  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved civil/structural design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation, and construction economy.
  • Participates in constructability reviews.
  • Other responsibilities as designated.

Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Specialized courses in drafting, design, and engineering practices.

Desired Skills and Knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in design and drafting, with demonstrated skill in a lead role or recognized courses in the directing of personnel.
  • Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, reading of drawings, and reproduction methods used by the discipline.
  • Familiarity with both structural steel and concrete foundation design and drafting.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
