ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a permanent position located at the Appin mine, situated near the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW. As the Superintendent of Mechanical Engineering, you will oversee the mechanical engineering operations within the underground mining environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety management systems and relevant legislation. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with mechanical engineering statutory requirements in accordance with NSW WHS (Mines and Petroleum) legislation and maintaining a current practicing certificate
- Developing, supervising, and reviewing mechanical engineering standards and procedures for mining activities
- Overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment, ensuring all operations adhere to safety and regulatory standards
- Managing mechanical records and audits to ensure alignment with company policies and statutory obligations
- Communicating mechanical safety protocols and updates to staff, addressing and resolving mechanical hazards and incidents promptly
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Exceptional communication and influencing abilities across various organizational levels
- Demonstrated experience in managing teams across multiple locations
- Leadership experience in underground coal mining, particularly in mechanical plant management
- Proven track record as an effective contributor and decision-maker within cross-functional teams
- Adept at fostering a safety-oriented, high-performance culture through development, mentoring, and coaching
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Certificate of competence as a Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM) for underground coal mining
- Current practicing certificate as a Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering recognized in Australia, or MEM60 Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or Associate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
