About the Role

Barnardos Australia is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Caseworker to join our team in the Yurungai Child and Family Service based in Marrickville. This is a full-time contract until June 2025, offering a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.

This position is targeted for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and we strongly encourage applicants from these backgrounds to apply. However, non-Aboriginal people are also welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a service to children and families through regular home visiting, focusing on family preservation and restoration.
  • Conduct SCARF assessments in partnership with families and other agencies, reviewing progress and ensuring the provision of advocacy services.
  • Refer families to external services where necessary, maintaining a child-focused approach and supporting parents to maintain or re-establish their parental responsibilities.
  • Provide practical assistance, including financial literacy support, to alleviate poverty and disadvantage.
  • Monitor child protection issues, adhering to The NSW Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and Barnardos Australia's 'Reporting of Child Abuse' policy.
About You

We are seeking an individual with:

  • Knowledge of child development and parenting capacity.
  • Experience working with children and young people in a child protection context, including knowledge of current child protection legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with families in need of support services.
  • Ability to use electronic case management tools.
  • Flexibility to participate in a 24-hour on-call roster to support kin carers, birth families, and their children/young people.

What We Offer
