Diverse Voices Cadetship
At SBS, we're committed to elevating and amplifying the voices of First Nations people and communities. We're now seeking emerging journalists who share our passion for telling unique stories that make a meaningful impact.
SBS's highly regarded News and Current Affairs division is offering 12-month cadetships to recent journalism graduates or community broadcasters looking to build a career in broadcast and digital journalism. Our cadets work across a variety of platforms, including television, radio, and digital, contributing to content that showcases multicultural, multilingual, and First Nations stories otherwise untold in the Australian media.
The role involves working under guidance and as part of a team, researching, producing, and reporting stories that matter. This includes evening and weekend shifts, supporting SBS's 24/7 news operation.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A tertiary qualification in Journalism or a related field, or community broadcasting experience
- Experience reporting or producing content for TV, radio, or digital platforms
- Strong knowledge of issues affecting Indigenous communities, national current affairs, and international issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with SBS and NITV News and Current Affairs programming
- Initiative, curiosity, and a drive to develop original story ideas
- Community connections and a commitment to elevating the voices of First Nations people and communities
This 12-month program offers a valuable opportunity to develop your journalism skills in line with SBS's editorial values: accuracy, balance, and impact. Upon completion, you may be considered for relevant vacancies across SBS News and Current Affairs.
About You
We're looking for individuals who bring a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to make a positive impact on our communities.
Please note: there's no guarantee of ongoing employment after the cadetship; however, those who successfully complete it may be considered for relevant positions within SBS News and Current Affairs.
