Construction Manager Job Overview

This is a key role within the construction directorate team, responsible for supporting a safe, healthy, and productive construction industry in NSW.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills to manage resources effectively, delivering regulatory responses, services, and programs. They will lead and manage a team, promoting a high-performing organisational culture and driving business unit growth through innovative use of digital technologies.

The successful applicant will demonstrate stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to promote and influence the implementation of organisational direction and programs. They will also provide strong leadership and direction to an evolving business unit culture within a dynamic and changing operating environment.

You will work closely with inspectors to ensure consistency with organisational and public sector values. The role involves effective communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, as well as the ability to represent relevant stakeholders.

This position requires a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participation in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service. A vehicle with access to private use is provided, along with flexible working conditions within operational requirements.

The essential requirements include the ability to travel, work remotely, and out of usual business hours. You must hold a valid NSW 'C' class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record, undergo a satisfactory criminal record check, and pass a medical assessment regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role.

Additionally, you will undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP), which includes online learning, completion of assessments, and extensive on-the-job field training throughout NSW.
