About the Role

Mater Health is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Orthopaedics and Surgical team at our South Brisbane campus. This part-time (19 hours per week) maximum term (until Dec 2025) role involves working in hand therapy, attending plastic and orthopaedic clinics, and treating acute and chronic hand and upper limb conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake routine clinical practice within established clinical protocols to achieve patient-focused outcomes
  • Apply increasing clinical judgement to more complex cases under clinical practice supervision
  • Provide delegation, supervision, training, and support to less experienced health practitioners, allied health assistants, students, support staff, and volunteers in the delivery of clinical services
  • Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures, and protocols within professional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Identify, develop, and participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Actively participate in translating research into practice
  • Actively participate in professional and multidisciplinary teams, and liaise with patients, their families/carers, and external agencies to facilitate patient-centred care
  • Participate in continuing professional development activities to further develop clinical practice and expertise
  • Contribute to the learning and development of the team through clinical education and clinical supervision
About You

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or Master of Occupational Therapy
  • Eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Eligibility to receive a Medicare provider number
  • Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skill in delivering assessment and intervention in the acute hand therapy area of occupational therapy
  • Demonstrated ability to apply occupational therapy skills to clinical services in the acute hospital environment
  • Flexibility to work across other acute hospital areas, eg, medical, orthopaedics, oncology, and private inpatient services
  • Demonstrated clinical practice and application of clinical judgement in the provision of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with professional and multidisciplinary teams, patients, and carers to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Ability to identify, develop, and participate in quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional occupational therapy clinical services of a complex nature, manage a varying caseload from day to day, and provide relevant clinical handover
